Free Passport OCR

Passport OCR reads machine-readable zone lines, names, nationality, document numbers, and expiry dates from passport photos and scans for travel agency workflows, identity verification prep, and form autofill. It reduces typos when MRZ data must match exactly for visa applications.

Automated MRZ parsing is faster than manual transcription and helps catch swapped digits before submission. Users still must verify every field because OCR on holograms and glare can confuse characters.

The pipeline detects the MRZ band, applies specialized character whitelisting for OCR-B fonts, and validates check digits per ICAO rules when implemented. Additional heuristics map visual zone names when present.

All processing occurs locally in the browser, critical for identity documents. Confidence scores may flag uncertain characters for human review.

Photograph or upload a flat, well-lit passport data page, run Passport OCR, and review extracted fields against the physical document. Copy values into forms or export structured data if the tool provides JSON output.

Avoid glare on the laminate and include the full MRZ lines at the bottom.

Never share passport images over insecure channels even when processing is local.
